Units 1D/1E is a 20 bed acute care inpatient service for children and adolescents. There are a wide variety of mental health issues treated from major depression to thought disorders. The focus of these units is crisis stabilization with average length of stay of 7 days.
Treatment is provided by a multidisciplinary team including two Child/Adolescent Psychiatrists, Nurses, Therapists, Psychologists, Psychiatric Residents, Psychiatric Technicians, and students from various disciplines.
School is provided during the regular school year by HISD school teachers. Music and recreational therapy are part of the program as well as groups on coping and anger management skills.
Family involvement is encouraged through visitation and communication with the treatment team in addition to a family meeting prior to discharge. Medication, group therapy, and positive reinforcement are emphasized by the treatment team to assist the child or adolescent as part of the treatment process. Separate groups are provided to children to meet their developmental needs |
