HICAP
Benefits Counselor Long-Term Care Initiative Training
The Health
Information, Counseling, and Advocacy Program (HICAP) will hold
workshops in Dallas, Houston, and Corpus Christi on the topic of
"Long-Term Care Options for Care and Payment." Staff members
from the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) and Texas Legal Services
Center (TLSC) will provide in-depth information on the Centers for
Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) National LTC Initiative designed
to help participants assist HICAP clients. Participants will review
case studies and will receive CMS-approved resource materials and
Texas-relevant information and rules. The workshops are funded through
the HICAP grant and hosted by the Dallas County, Harris County,
and Coastal Bend Area Agencies on Aging (AAA).
Who
Should Attend: The workshops are open to AAA volunteers
and staff, including Benefits Counselors, Caregivers, Nursing Home
Ombudsmen, and staff of the 2-1-1 or Information & Referral
programs. HICAP-certified counselors who attend will be eligible
for special LTC certification. Local community service providers
are also welcome to attend. Each workshop lasts three days. You
need only attend one of the workshops to be eligible for the
special LTC certification.
