Nurun N. Shah, M.D., M.P.H., associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, has been an Attending Physician at UTHCPC for the past decade.
 
Shah received her bachelor's degree from Women's College in East Pakistan in 1972 and her medical degree from the Chittagong Medical College in Bangladesh in 1977 where she then completed her internship in 1978. In 1980, she received her master's in public health in preventative medicine from the U.T. Houston School of Public Health followed by a fellowship in community medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. She completed her residency in psychiatry at the Texas Research Institute of Mental Sciences, Houston in 1986.
 
In addition to serving on the teaching staff at UT Medical School at Houston, Shah is an adjunct associate professor in the psychiatry and behavioral sciences department at Baylor College of Medicine.
 
She is licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners and is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Additionally, she has received numerous professional awards including American Psychiatric Association's Third Annual Nancy C.A. Roeske, M.D., Certificate of Recognition for Teaching Excellence in Medical Student Education in 1993. She was also nominated for the prestigious President's Award for Mentoring Women in 1996-1999.
