Introduction
Volunteers
make a real difference in the lives of patients at UTHCPC.
As a volunteer, you can participate in a number of activities,
on and off the patient unit. As a volunteer, you can put your
talents to use in a meaningful way. Volunteering provides
a wonderful opportunity to the public to give back to the
community while gaining knowledge and understanding about
mental illness, a disease which will affect one in five individuals.
Volunteers
can work as a group (such as a church or school group) or
individually. Volunteers working on a unit must be at least
18 years old; volunteers working off the patient units must
be at least 14 years old. High school and college students
as well as those working on Boy Scout Eagle Badges are most
welcome to participate in volunteer activities.
Volunteer
assistance is needed in the following areas:
-
Working with patients, playing games, reading or participating
in other activities
-
Working with the therapy department who host dances and
game night
- Hosting
special parties
- Assisting
admissions
- Assisting
with worship services
The
Volunteer Services Department’s goal is to make your
volunteer experience as worthwhile as possible. If none of
the above opportunities interest you, please let us know what
you are interested in, and we will try our best to accommodate
you.
